Changing the speech-language therapy game for children
The free, public speech-language therapy service for children is overwhelmed with public demand for service.
Sadly, this overwhelm means there is a speech-language therapy gap in Aotearoa New Zealand, where children with Communication Disorders are not being identified effectively, are waiting longer and longer on the public service jobs wait list, and are not getting the help they need to succeed.
At Speechie, we are tired of hearing sad stories from families about their disappointing and frustrating experiences in the public speech-language therapy service. We are tired of standing by while our public servant colleagues find themselves so desensitised and under so much pressure that they are resorting to gaslighting as a coping strategy.
Most of all, we are tired of seeing early intervention windows missed and children's futures compromised, because we know the impact of Communication Disorders on our kids and communities.

Our 'Communication currency for kids' shared funding initiative
Like other social enterprises around the world, Speechie recognises that our government cannot be expected to pay for everything, and we are leading a nationwide collective effort to help more children, help them sooner, and help them better.
We believe that an affordable, accessible, unconstrained, consistent, substantial, well-supported, and ongoing speech-language therapy service is possible through a shared funding commitment that reflects our collective responsibility to look out for children with Communication Disorders .
So, we started the 'communication currency for kids' shared funding initiative to make sure that efficient, effective, early identification, assessment, diagnosis, and intervention is real for children with Communication Disorders in Aotearoa New Zealand.
